Search for distributional findings on Happiness in Nations

This collection contains observed distributions of responses to questions about happiness in representative samples of the general population in nations. For detail read the Introductory text.
On this site, you can get to these findings in two ways:

Select separate findings
Each of the findings on happiness is described on a separate page that enumerates the following information:

• the nation where the survey was held
• the time of data gathering (year and month)
• the name of the survey study
• the report in which the findings on happiness were published
• the type of happiness question used, indicated by the item code and the full text of that question
• the observed distribution of responses, in percent responses on each answer category
• the resulting means and standard deviations, both on the original rating scale and transformed to a common 0-10 numerical scale

On this site you can get to these pages in two ways:

• Search on nation
  On the page of Happiness in nations in the left field, you can click 'Search findings by nation. A list of nations will appear in the blank middle field. When you click on a nation, e.g. 'Albania' a list will pop up in the field at the right, which lists all the questions on happiness ever used in general population surveys in that country.The questions sorted by kind and in each kind category ordered by year. The questions are denoted by the item code. If you click on that code, the full text appears. Right to the questions you see the observed response, expressed in means and standard deviations. Left of each question is an icon that brings you to the above mentioned page with detailed information about survey and full distribution of responses
  
  
• Search on item type
  On the page of Happiness in nations in the left field, you can also select 'Search findings by item type '.Now a list of question types will appear in the blank middle field, which differ in conceptual focus. When you click on an item type, e.g. '111c 4-step happiness' a list will pop up in the field at the right, which enumerates all the questions of this kind ever used in general population surveys. The codes in the list indicates the variants used, if you click on a code you get to the precise text of the survey question. The questions are presented by country and within each country sorted by year. Right to the question codes you see the observed response, expressed in means and standard deviations. Left of each question is an icon that brings you to the above mentioned page with detailed information about survey and full distribution of responses.

Read comparative Finding Reports
The separate findings do not provide an easy view on differences in happiness across nations and on trend in happiness over time. Meaningfull comparison requires a selection of responses on well comparable questions. Such a selection is presented in the Finding Reports that can also be assessed from the page 'Happiness in Nations'. These reports are regularly updated

• Rank Reports
  If you click on this link, a list of links to reports will pop up in the blank middle field. On top of that list you will see reports about differences in happiness accross nations. There are separate reports for average happiness in nations, happy life years in nations, inequality of happiness in nations and inequality-adjusted happiness in nations.
  
  
• Trend Reports
  Likewise you can get to reports about change in happiness over time. These Finding Reports are based on selections of responses to comparable questions on happiness in particular nations. Again there are separate reports for trend in average happiness in nations, trend in happy life years in nations, trends in inequality of happiness in nations and trend in inequality-adjusted happiness in nations.
